How much can you take and keep moving forward. But it ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. Let me tell you something you already know. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you that you are no good. I can't say it better than Rocky himself: They need to understand that the world is going to knock them down and it is up to them to get up. Pop some popcorn and make it a great day of learning and growing. Pick a Saturday and watch a few of the movies together. Let them hear the lyrics of so many songs that they can think about as they fight for that A in algebra or stand on the free throw line with the game on the line knowing that it is their spirit that will get that shot through the net. ![]() Let them watch what strong will and determination really looks like. I encourage you to sit down with your kids and watch all of the "Rocky" movies. Scene from rocky balboa speech series#Most of the movie series they end up watching are things like "The Hangover" which keeps them wondering how drunk and high you can get and somehow still make your wedding. They are faced with shows like "Pretty Little Liars" or "16 and Pregnant." Most of their movie choices are rated PG-13 and would have certainly been rated R while we were younger. I do know that I would rather they were watching a boxer fighting against the odds and after a hard fought victory attribute his win to the sacrifices that his wife and family have made to get him there. I'm not sure what the right answer might be. The "Twilight" series has them trying to determine if it is better to pick a wolf or a vampire for a life partner. They have grown up watching vampires and zombies. Today's generation doesn't have the "Rocky" series to pump them up. ![]()
